AFASA women and youth to gather in Pretoria for a national leadership planning commission

On the 10th - 12th of February 2013, representatives of AFASA Women and Youth and Women from all 52 districts of the South Africa, will gather in Pretoria to attend a two-day AFASA's Women and Youth National Leadership Commission. This much needed national dialogue will be held at St George's Hotel in Pretoria and is expected to address entrepreneurial and leadership challenges faced by women and youth in agriculture.

Women and Youth Planning Leadership Commission is a precursor to Youth and Women Conferences planned for June and August later this year.

During its 1st Annual General Meeting, which was addressed by among other distinguished speakers, His Excellency the President of the Republic of South Africa Mr. Jacob Zuma, AFASA's National Executive Council undertook to organize Youth and Women Conferences so as to address challenges faced by women and young people in agriculture.

Key areas of focus that the Commission is expected to address, will include among other issues;

• How to capacitate youth and women to become future leaders in agriculture;

• Support mechanisms required to ensure meaningful & maximum participation of youth and women in agribusiness; and

• Opportunities for women and youth in the agricultural sector.

AFASA is a representative and unitary body of all African farmers which is committed to driving the establishment of competent and successful commercial African farmers of South Africa.
