Media advisory - final reminder!!!! Cut off time for RSVP

The Secretariat of the African Farmers Association of South Africa (AFASA) has received with great delight confirmation from the Presidency that His Excellency, The President of the Republic of South Africa, Dr. Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, will certainly attend and address the 1st Annual General Meeting and Conference of AFASA. President Zuma is scheduled to address South Africa's smallholder farmers during a Gala Dinner which will be held at St Georges' Conference Centre, Rietvlei Dam, Pretoria South, on Monday, 22 October 2012, at 18h00.

AFASA's Head of Secretariat, Mr. Aggrey Mahanjana, cordially extends a special plea to all the members of the media to take note and comply with the due date for RSVP. President Zuma will be accompanied by, among others, the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Tina Joemat-Petterson, Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform, Mr. Gugile Nkwinti, the Premier of Gauteng Province, Ms Nomvula Mokonyane, as well as MECs for Agriculture, Rural Development and Environmental Affairs.

In his address, South Africa's No.1 (first citizen), is expected to reflect on government's position and proposed interventions on but not limited to the following:

-Government's policy position on Land Reform;
-Creation of agribusiness opportunities for smallholder farmers, so as the ensure their meaningful participation in the entire value chain;
-Government's role in the creation of an enabling environment for prosperous and sustainable farming in South Africa; and
-Facilitation of access to agricultural finance and markets.

The Conference has also attracted interest from the International Agricultural Community. Speakers and Ambassadors from countries such as Italy, Germany, USA and Belarus will also grace this auspicious event.


AFASA is a representative and unitary body of all African farmers which is committed to driving the establishment of competent and successful commercial African farmers of South Africa.
